Varsity Mat Men Bow to Elis, 16-13

Harvard's varsity wrestlers came heartbreakingly close to beating Yale Saturday afternoon, but an upset in a key mate gave Yale the win, 16 to 11.

In the 147 pound class, Icko Iben lost to Fred Pettit 6 to 7 after leading in the first period. The match was tied in the third period at 4 all, with Iben on the bottom in the referee's position. At the whistle Pettit released him, automatically giving Iben an escape and one point. Pettit felt he would have a better chance in a standing position and would be able to score two points if he could gain "take down." He did this and went on to win.

The freshmen lost, 19 to 13.
