Swimmers, Wrestlers, Fencers Compete in Intercollegiates

NEW YORK, March 14--Harvard finished the first day in the 55th annual Intercollegiate Fencing Association championships at Columbia in seventh place in the three weapon race and only eight points behind Princeton's leading 34 point total.

The Crimson was still in contents with 26 points after the entire epee-session and half the foil division. It shows good balance to take seventh place in the epee. The Cantabs' victories were over split, with George McNair winning sever bouts, John Smith five, and Lester Scherer six. All fenced 12 times.

In their first five foils bouts, Eric Sollee won two, Jan Jertson three, and V. Chandler three. All three are still contention for individual honors.

In the all-weapon race, the tournament was still a toss-up, with the finish of the foil division and the entire saber competition scheduled for tomorrow. Princeton's 34 points was only two better the Cornell with 32. N.Y.U., with 31, and Columbia, with 30, were also very much in contention.
