An injury riddled varsity wrestling team was badly beaten, 21 to 8, Saturday in the Blockhouse by a strong Columbia squad. The Lions took five of the eight matches, two of them by pins.
The bright spots for the Crimson were the dependable combination of Johnny Lee and Icko Iben. Lee won his 130-pound match by a 6 to 1 decision, completely outclassing his opponent. He worked smoother Saturday than he has all year. Iben at 147 pounds looked very good as he defeated Rhodes by a score of 6 to 4.
The summary--123-pound: Gvardigan (C) defeated Bursk, 2-0; 130-pound: Lee (H) defeated Cirion, 6-1; 137-pound: Hartmann (C) defeated Wilde; pin, 5:16; 147-pound: Iben (H) defeated Rhodes, 6-4; 157-pound: Chandler (H) and Tischler, tie 1-1; 167-pound: Sherry (C) defeated Hubbard, 6-0; 177-pound: Barlow (C) defeated Farrington; pin, 5:59; and heavyweight Littlefield (C) defeated Bates, 7-3.
