Faculty Approves Revised Schedule

The Faculty of Arts and Sciences yesterday approved a revised calendar for the next academic year which shortens the school year and brings Commencement a week earlier.

In the fall term, there will be no change in the opening date of the term, but by beginning classes at the same time as registration, two full days will be added to the term. The change will require earlier registration for both freshmen and upperclassmen.

Two Days Off

The mid-year examination period will be shortened two days to make an 11 instead of the present 13 day examination period. The Faculty vote requires that "examinations will start on the second Wednesday preceding the beginning of the spring term, and extend through the Monday preceding the beginning of the spring term."

The recess between the mid-year examinations and the spring term will be one day less, since there will be no weekend gap between the end of exams and the new term. Classes will begin on the first day of the term.

Spring reading period will begin on the Wednesday of the sixth week before Commencement. The length of the reading period will not be affected, but the spring examination period will be shortened from 13 to 11 days.

Commencement will be held on the second Thursday preceding the last Wednesday in June. This is a full week earlier than at present.

All the proposals are subject to approval by the Governing Boards.
