Ruggers Win, 9-3

A record post-war rugby crowd, estimated from program sales at nearly 500 went to Soldiers Field Saturday to watch the Crimson crack M.I.T.'s well-drilled back-line three times, and win a 9 to 3 victory. The win was the first over the Engineers for over a year, and came after three successive defeats last fall.

The Jayvees played Tech in a curtain-raiser before the varsity. They lost, 0 to 6.

Biggest surprise of all was the Crimson back line though it played weak, ragged games in Bermuda, it showed itself in this game at least as good as M.I.T. "Red" Wylie revealed himself as the stand-out, particularly in defense, where his low football tackles stopped at least three Tech scoring trys.

Wylie's next-in-line, Dave McGiffert, made the first touchdown. Then, in the second half, Captain Brad Lundborg broke through the Tech forwards for another touchdown. Later, the Engineers scored from a penalty kick and made the tally 6 to 3. Ex-Princetonian George Sella, playing breakaway forward, made the final touchdown.
