'25 Summer School to Offer Panels on Theatre, History

Authors, critics, economists, philosophers and ambassadors will talk at a series of three summer conferences on the drama, history, and philosophy, William Y. Elliott, Director of the Summer School, announced yesterday.

In addition, 45 visiting scholars from universities in America and Europe will join 67 University faculty members conducting classes at the 1952 session of the Summer School.

Subjects of the conferences will be: "The Contemporary Moral Crisis" on July 15 and 16: "The Philosophy of History" July 21 to 22, and "The Contemporary Drama," August 4 to 6. A two day conference on educational school administration and instruction will also be held.

Included in the list of speakers are Pierre Emmanuel, famed French poet; Sydney Hook, professor of Philosophy at New York University; Albert Marre, director of the Battle Theatre; and Dr. Tara Chand, Indian Ambassador to Iran. Two well-known authors, Michael O'Donovan (Frank O'Connor) and Gilbert Seldes, will also be among the eight other speakers. Elliott, Carl J. Friedrich, professor of Government, and George La Piana. John H. Morison Professor of Church History, will be the Harvard participants.

Elliott also announced that a special series of courses bearing on the drama conference will be offered this summer, while another group has been built around the Classic civilizations, and ancient philosophy.

Six of 29 courses in the field of Education will deal with the elementary school situation, and the three of these dealing with elementary and secondary school teaching of science will be given by President Conant and assistants Professor Fletcher G. Watson of Harvard and Dr. Paul F. Brandwein of Columbia.
