Ten Smashes Jumbos, 10-2, Earns First League Triumph

The varsity lacrosse team gained its first Eastern League win yesterday, trouncing Tufts, 10 to 2 on the New Playing Field. The victory was the Crimson's second straight.

Although the Crimson was never really pressed, it took more than 30 minutes to shift its attack into smooth order. Tufts was able to stay with the varsity in the early stages--halftime score was 3 to 2. But the Jumbos wilted badly at the end, and the Crimson sewed up the decision with a five-goal final period.

Sophomore attackman Monk Aiello led the scoring, tallying two pretty goals and three assists. Aiello, who seems to improve with every game, sank the first Crimson goal while falling at 9:06 of the first period after Ned Yoot and Moe Baldwin had caught the Tufts goalie out of the net. He added a brilliant angle drive later.

Midfielders Ron Huebech and Al Sawyer and reserve attackman Laurie Otis also scored twice each.

Freshmen Lose, 14-5

An experienced and skillful Deerfield Academy squad swamped the freshmen at Deerfield yesterday, 14 to 5. Although the score was lopsided, the defense showed great improvement, with Tom Crump and Rip Muss standouts for the day.
