Princeton's athletic director last night denied a statement made yesterday by Clyde Lovelette, star center for the NCAA champion University of Kansas five, that Princeton had been among "45 or 50" schools which attempted toesrecruit him with offers ranging up to "$10,000, a new car and a new house."
In denying the allegation the Tiger athletic chief. It, Kenneth Fairman, declared, "We have no knowledge of any such offer, and in accordance with the Ivy Group agreement, if any offer of financial aid was made, it was unauthorized."
Although he refused to say which colleges made which offers, Lovellette did disclose that one alumni "counselor" offered him room, board, tuition, books laundry, a car, clothes, 15 dollars a month extra spending money, and anything else be wanted.
