Tennis Squad Favored Over Springfield in Home Opener

Captain Charlie Ufford will play number one for the second straight year in the varsity tennis team's home opener at 3 p.m. tomorrow on the Soldiers Field courts. Only two of the other five singles players are returning lettermen, however, while three sophomores will play in the second, fourth, and sixth positions.

Beating Springfield should not present the varsity much difficulty, Coach Jack Barnaby feels. The Indians have never been noted for their tennis teams, while this year's Crimson squad figures to be one of the best in New England. Barnaby has excused the regular number four singles man. Art French, from this match, since he feels that French's loss will not decisively affect the Crimson's chances for a victory.

Lineup Changes

The lineup tomorrow will differ considerably from the one which ended the spring vacation southern trip with one victory and four defeats. Behind Ufford, sophomore John Rauh will play two, with Dave. Watts third. Gene Mann, a sophomore who missed the spring trip, will go at four, while senior Gerry Murphy will be the fifth man. The third sophomore player, Don. Bossart, in the six position, will also be playing his first time for the varsity after missing the southern matches.
