Kazan Accepts Offer To Give Spencer Talk Here, Levin Discloses

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Stage and screen director Elia Kazan will deliver the second Theodore Spencer Memorial Foundation lecture on Wednesday, May 14, in New Lecture Hall, Harry T. Levin, professor of English, announced yesterday.

Late in December, an invitation committee first asked Kazan to appear. Broadway and Hollywood commitments prevented him from setting a definite date, however, and Kazan expressed regret that his commitments prevented an appearance at that time.

According to Levin, who is a member of the invitation committee, Kazan has not yet chosen a title for his lecture. Levin said, however, that Kazan will probably speak on "the public aspect of the film, or perhaps the relation of the arts to free speech."

Kazan was awarded an "Oscar" in 1947 for his direction of "Gentleman's Agreement."
