Reunion Week Tours, Symposiums, To Show Changed College to Grads

Alumni returning for reunion activities during Commencement Week this June may be going right back to the classroom and laboratory, under a new program set up to brief graduates on changes in the College in the last 25 years.

William M. Rand '09, president of the Alumni Association, announced yesterday that three symposiums, on June 15 and 16, as well as daily tours of libraries, museums, and laboratories, have been planned. The symposiums will give returning graduates a taste of new teaching methods, and new developments in the humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences.

The graduates will be brought up to date on the college athletic program, financial aid to students, and student advising. The House system and the General Education program will also come under consideration.

"Values in Western Society," the first symposium, will include talks by Archibald MacLeish, Boylston Professor of Rhetoric and Oratory, and Clyde K. M. Kluckhohn, professor of Anthropology.

Thomas D. Bolles, Director of Athletics, will speak on "The Harvard Athletic Program," and Elliott Perkins '23, Master of Lowell House, will discuss the role of the Houses in a second symposium, entitled "College and Student Outside the Classroom." In the third, three teachers in the General Education program will talk on "Goals in General Education."
