Golf Team Beats Brown; Freshmen Swamp St. Marks

Although high winds made scores soar, the varsity golf team soundly trounced Brown, 5 1/2 to 1 1/2, at the Dedham Country Club yesterday. The freshmen also won, beating St. Marks, 7 1/2 to 1 1/2.

Medalist was Bill Timpson, playing third man, who managed to eke out a 74. Timpson posted an easy 7 and 6 victory over the Bruin's Bob Jacobsen.

First man Dusty Burke and his Brown opponent, Jim McVicker, were both hindered by the weather conditions. They tied, neither playing exceptionally fine golf. Captain Paul Weissman fired a 78 to beat Izzy Kats, 3 and 2.

In fourth position, Dave Hedberg hung up a 3 and 1 win over Bob Wahlberg. The only Crimson loss was suffered by fifth man Mitch Rosenholtz, beaten 2 up by Bob McKinley, Jack Brophy, at sixth position, beat Bruin Paul Bohlen 2 up, and seventh man George Wheeling closed out his match with Bo Sinclair on the 16th green winning 3 and 2.

Bruce Thurmond continued his winning ways to lead the freshmen team to a 7 1/2 to 1 1/2 win against St. Marks. Thurmond, who has been only a few shots above par figures all season, fashioned a 75 on the windy Southboro course to beat Dave Munger 4 and 3. John Parsons halved with Os Edwards in the second match. Pete Malkin lost 1 down to Arch Renshaw, Jim Jones crushed Sol Bundy 6 and 5. John Walsh topped Al Spurr 6 and 4, and Dave Strassier wiped out Ed Sterling 7 and 5.
