Puritan Eleven Slams Deacons; Elephant Netmen Tip Funsters

Winthrop's solid-hitting softball team, potentially the strongest in the House League, finally brought some of its power into the daylight yesterday, walloping an in-and-out Kirkland squad, 14 to 7. The Puritan baseball team, led by pitcher Ken Eddy, with a triple and a double, took the measure of the Deacons, 15 to 6.

Long-distance softball slugger Irv Grossman drove in seven runs--half his team's total--pasting two homers while doing so. But inability to contain opponents' attacks plagued the Puritans again. Brilliant relief pitching by John Ramser was needed to preserve the victory, clinched by a seven-run Winthrop uprising in the seventh.

In House tennis, the top-seeded Eliot squad downed Dunster--rated second best--4 to 3.
