Starck Given Francke German Culture Chair

Taylor Starck, chairman of the Department of German Languages for 20 years, was yesterday appointed to the Kuno Francke Professorship of German Art and Culture.

Starck, a philologist and medievalist, has been on the Harvard faculty since 1920. He is editor of the publications of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and Chairman of the Committee of the American Council of Learned Societies on UNESCO Affairs.

The Francke Professorship was established in 1929 by friends of a former chairman of the Germanic Department.
