Harvard Students To Vote on Divestment From Israel in Inaugural HUA Election Survey
To the Editors of the CRIMSON:
Certain aspects of the story concerning the organization of the Harvard Young Democrats need clarification. In the first place, the old Democratic Club is not "Long-Dead." It was active until last spring, and did not become officially inactive until last term. Secondly, we do not seek the support of the HLU or the Law School Democrats. We do not need their support, though we shall try to co-operate with both organizations in next fall's elections. The only support we have sought is that of the Democratic State Committee, and we have been promised such support. The purpose of the Harvard Young Democrats is to support Democratic candidates for public office and to present the program and principles of the Party to the Harvard Community, for effective political action is possible only through organized political parties. This is the only reason for parties. The statement by my good friend Frank Rhulon of the HLU does not, in our opinion, tell the entire story. No matter how greatly the HLU attempts to remain indecent. It is inevitably forced to support Democratic candidates and the Democratic program, for the HLU has no place else to go. The HLU is affiliated with the ADA, which is run by party Democrats. We support many of the policies of the HLU, but to get results there must be a Democratic Club officially allied with the Party.
