Close to 250 persons attended the funeral of Jaakko Mikkola in Memorial Church yesterday afternoon. The 66-year-old Harvard varsity track coach died Thursday at his home in Belmont.
In the front sat Mrs. Mikkola. Nearby was Bill McCurdy, who will be Mikkola's successor as coach, and sprinkled through the crowd were past and present Harvard trackmen. Two ministers officiated, one in English and one in Finnish.
Burial took place in the afternoon at Belmont Cemetery.
Mikkola joined the Harvard coaching staff in 1921 and became varsity track coach in 1936. He died last week after being stricken with coronary thrombosis in April.
