Six Youths Arrested For Taking Lead Bars From Business School

Six youths managed to eart 700 pounds of lead away from the new Kresge Building at the Business School last week in bicycle knapsacks.

Several hours later Cambridge police arrested all six youths and two accomplices and recovered the lead at a Cambridge home, a mile from the Business School.

Police said the youths went over the fence onto Business School property. They then passed the lead outside and carted it to Cambridge via bicycle.

A few days after the thefts occurred, a Cambridge resident saw two men transferring lead to trucks, and reported the registration of one truck to police, who subsequently arrested the driver. He and another man, police stated, sold the lead for $60. All lead was found later and returned.

The two men were charged with receiving stolen goods and are scheduled to go on trial shortly. Police located the youths after a lead pig was discovered in the backyard of one. The six will be brought before the Police Juvenile Committee for judgement.
