Chief Randall Will Return After Spring Injury Heals

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Chief of University Police Alvin T. Randall, seriously injured in a riot at the Medical School last spring, has been in the hospital all summer and will be limited to temporary duty this fall.

Chief Randall was summoned last May to the Medical School in Boston after more than 300 students began shouting and pelting people with waterbags. With a sergeant and three officers who were rushed to the scene from Cambridge, Randall managed to quell the disturbance, but in the process, he was knocked down by some students.

Hurt Back

The assaulters escaped, and subsequent examination revealed that Chief Randall suffered a ruptured spine disk. Throughout the summer, he was hospitalized and will return only temporarily during the fall until the injury heals.

During his absence, University Police Lieutenant Matthew Toohey has been acting police chief.
