Law Professor for 23 Years Dies at Home

Morton C. Campbell, 76, professor of Law, emeritus, died last Tuesday at his home, 453 Mount Auburn St., Watertown.

Campbell was a member of the law school faculty for 23 years until he retired in 1942. He was an acknowledged authority on suretyship, mortgages, bills and notes, and wrote a number of treatises in these fields.

Born in Cambridge, Ohio, Campbell earned his B.A. at Washington and Jefferson College. He later studied at the Law School where he received the degree of Laws and Doctor of Jurisprudence.

After being admitted to the Ohio bar he practiced general law for a time but became interested in teaching and joined the law faculty of Tulane University in 1915. He further taught at Indiana University before coming to the Harvard Law School in 1919.

During the First World War Campbell served as a major in the infantry.

Upon retirement Campbell became active in a number of charity organizations. He was a member of Delta Tau Delta and Phi Beta Kappa fraternities.

A funeral service was held on Wednesday at Park Street Church. Burial was at Cambridge, Ohio.
