Coach Lloyd Jordan's football entourage moved yesterday into the regular practice enclosure, hard by the Stadium's west wall.
Otherwise, there were no signs that this was the official start of the season, with the opening game against Springfield a scant five days off.
The workout followed the usual Monday afternoon pattern, with no real "head-knocking"--after the hard intra-squad scrimmage on Saturday.
Both offensive backfields went through lengthy rehearsals of plays. Gil O'Neil quarterbacked the "A" unit, with Dick Clasby at tailback, John Ederer at wingback, and John Culver at fullback. The "B" unit featured Bill Monteith at quarterback, Jerry Blitz at fullback, Hardy Cox at tailback, and sophomore Otis "Ki" Dewan at wingback.
JV Runs Passes
Norm Shepard's junior varsity came over later and sent a series of Springfield pass plays at the varsity defenses. Jordan utilized several defensive combinations, including a good session as linebacker for Al "Buddy" Lemay. Lemay, starting offensive center last season, had been sidelined with intestinal grippe for the past few days.
Culver also worked out at linebacker. He played the position as a freshman, but was used mostly on offense until injured last year.
Art French and Marinus "Dutch" Von Gessel, both victims of early season injuries, worked out without pads again.
