'Cliffe Girls Get Paid Better Now For Baby-Sitting

Radcliffe and College baby-sitting rates rose about 20 percent this week. The Annex also upped payments for all other Student Employment jobs.

New rates 60 cents an hour for day-time child care, and 40 cents an hour evening care. Mrs. Bradford Shaw, director of Radcliffe Student Employment, explained the move as stemming from the higher cost of living.

Last week the 'Cliffe Cedar Hill Conference recommended hiking the rates, and cited the higher pay-scales at nearby schools. At that time college employment officials had already begun discussion of the changes.

Radcliffe rates for chauffeuring, cooking, housework, reading aloud, working as waitresses, office work, and messenger service are all now 75 cents an hour, a rise of about 10 cents an hour apiece. Library workers have received a 20 cent an hour increase, from 55 cents to 75 cents. Mimeographing is set at 80 cents an hour and experienced typing at 85 cents, a hike of 10 cents an hour apiece.

Harvard rates for those jobs remain higher than the corresponding Radcliffe scale.
