Injuries May Force Jordan To Fill In with Sophomores

First-string guard Eli Manos "won't be able to play much" against Springfield here Saturday, Coach Lloyd Jordan said yesterday.

Still limping from the ankle sprain he sustained two weeks ago, the husky Manos worked out with the varsity yesterday, but Jordan has apparently given up hope of having him ready to go against the Maroon.

If Manos remains sidelined long, the Crimson will find itself in a cramped position. Manos was one of four veterans--John Culver, Buddy Lemay, and Captain John Nichols--whom Jordan planned to use on both offense and defense.

Now, Jordan is pressed. Sophomore Tim Anderson will replace Manos on the attack. But Anderson is also a first-string defensive guard.

"He may have to go both ways," Jordan admitted.

Another important question is: "Who will replace Bill Weber at defensive left end?" Weber has a broken thumb.

Jordan himself is puzzled. "'Who'," he repeated. "That's as good an answer as any."

"I wish I knew," he added. "Probably Frank Yoffe some and Paul Crowley some."

But Crowley is the Crimson's top offensive end. As Jordan said when explaining why so many men would have to go both ways, "We don't have any alternative."

Linebacker Bob Hardy, still on the shelf with a shoulder injury, watched the practice without pads. Culver took his place on defense and probably will do so in the game.

Jordan sent all his defensive alignments through an extensive workout against J.V.'s using Springfield pass plays.
