'57 Eleven Rallies To Tie Dartmouth

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Coach Bob Margarita's freshman eleven, aided by the sharp passing of Jimmy Joslin and Mat Botsford, overcame a two touchdown lead to tie the Dartmouth freshmen, 13-13, Saturday afternoon at Hanover.

Indian touchdowns early in each half put Dartmouth ahead, 13-0, halfway through the third quarter, but the Yardlings rallied with touchdown in the third and fourth quarters to tie, their second touchdown coming with only minutes to play in the game.

The Yardlings' first score came on a five-yard pass, Joslin to Tony Gianelly, that climaxed a 62 yard drive. The Crimson had driven into Dartmouth territory after the kickoff following the second Indian score, but were forced to kick. Dartmouth could not move, and kicked, the ball rolling dead on Harvard's 38.

Eight plays later, the Yardlings had their first score. Paul Abrahamian converted to make the score 13 to 7, Dartmouth.

Six Minutes Left

With six minutes remaining, the Yardlings started the drive that would tie the game, again from their 38. Phil Houghey tallied on a pass from Mat Botsford, but Abrahamian's conversion attempt failed. Neither team could muster a scoring threat as time ran out.

Dartmouth's scores came on a four yard smash by Low Rovero at 5:48 in the first quarter and a quarterback sneak by Mike Brown following a 60-yard pass play.

Margarita Encouraged

The Crimson defensive play was especially encouraging to Margarita, and he commented on the fine pass protection of the secondary that held the Indians to three completions for seven yards, except for the third quarter lapse.

The Indians out rushed the Yardlings 154 to 134, but Joslin and Boots ford shone in passing, completing ten of 19 good for 116 yards. The Crimson got 14 first downs to Dartmouth's 11.

Meanwhile, the freshman "B" team dropped an exciting game to Mt. Hermon Academy, 25 to 18, at Mt. Hermon.
