Exeter Soccer Team Defeats Yardlings 4-1 With 1st Half Splurge

A speedy Exeter squad downed the freshman soccer team, 4 to 1, yesterday afternoon in New Hampshire. Playing on a sloppy field, the Crimson was unable to stop a strong Exeter offense that tallied three goals in the first half.

Coach Poley Guyda's team started with a short, passing game, but after two early Exeter scores switched to kick and rush tactics. Harvard had trouble settling down, and was off-side a number of times in an effort to even the score.

The Yardlings scored in the middle of the third period on a shot by outside left Grayson Murphy. Starring in defeat for the Crimson were fullback Eric Frank, halfback Red Wexler, inside Eddie Burlingame, and center halfback Al Hoyt, team captain. Bob Dubinsky was at goal for the '57 club.

The loss was the Yard team's second in a row after it had opened the season with four straight wins. The squad's next contest is against Andover at the Business School Field at 2 p.m. Saturday.
