First Crimson comp of Year Begins Today

Competition for all CRIMSON boards starts this evening at 7:30 p.m. at 14 Plympton Street. Free beer will be served.

All upperclassmen at Harvard or Radcliffe are eligible to compete for positions on the news, editorial, business, and photographic boards. The comp will last for eight weeks.

Novice journalists and businessmen do not compete against each other, but against traditional standards established in the 80 year history of Cambridge's only breakfast table daily, Each of the four boards will elect all who can meet these standards.

Previous experience is unimportant, as CRIMSON editors will hold seminars and give personal instruction in all phases of newspaper work.

News and editorial candidates will have opportunities to meet and interview the most interesting and important names in the University and will acquire writing facilities invaluable for filling examination blue books, while business candidates will begin to share in the operation of a $100,000 per year enterprise. Photographic competitors will have constant access too one of the best-equipped dark rooms in college journalism.

For the first few weeks news candidates will work every other day, learning newsroom techniques, then the emphasis will be shifted to news reporting. Editorial Board candidates will write three selection weekly.
