Jack Barnaby's varsity squash team made its season's debut a successful one yesterday afternoon by pounding out a surprisingly easy 6 to 3 win over Navy.

The Midshipmen, winners over the Crimson in last year's match, had been counted on to present a strong challenge to the varsity's hopes for another national title. But Barnaby's untested squad came through in fine style.

Crimson number one man Haddon Tomes led the team to victory with a hard-fought win over his Navy counterpart Tom Lynch by scores of 18-13, 14-18, 18-15, 15-1. Number two man Larry Brownell won in a clean sweep from Navy's Doug Egan by an 18-14, 15-12, 15-3 count.

Navy's number three man Ralph Redden came from behind to win a marathon 15-18, 15-8, 12-15, 18-17, 15-9 battle over the Crimson's Bill Wister. But Captain Mike Ward, in the number four spot, trounced his Navy opponent. Charlie Smith by scores of 12-15, 15-7, 18-14, 15-10.

Middles Win Five, Six

The Midshipmen took both matches in the five and six positions. S. L. Ramos beat Johnny Rauh in another long match by scores of 13-16, 15-9, 15-10, 10-15, 18-15. R. P. Bordone topped the Crimson's Paul Garrigue 16-14, 18-15, 15-7.

The bottom three men in the varsity lineup all turned in victories to seal the Crimson win. Number seven man Ed Rose gained a 5-15, 15-10, 17-16, 15-11 win over Navy's M. Ricketts and Guy Paschal swept Midshipman Ed Dawson by 15-13, 15-12; 15-7 scores. Al Stone took the varsity's sixth win of the day over M. A. Desseyn by 15-8, 13-15, 15-10, 13-15, 15-11 count.
