The Ivy League's first anti-smoking campaign was launched this week in New Haven by "Smokers Anonymous," a group of smoky-eyed Law School students bent on ending what they consider one of society's most harmful habits.
Patterned after "Alcoholics Anonymous," the Yale group has condemned smoking an "subversive,' 'and seeks to cure those, like themselves, who desire to be rid of the urge to smoke.
Placing the blame for lung cancer directly on smoking, the Elis have devised a "smoker's kit" which they hope will be a satisfactory substitute. The kit includes life-savers to take the place of smoke rings, matches to light friends cigarettes, and a nail file for people who want to smoke and also wish to spare their finger nails.
"Smokers Anonymous," while promising not to assume a "Carrie Nation" attitude, has pledged to carry on its war against smoking until the last ash is cool.
