The convicted slayer of Charles P. Van Pelt '54 yesterday asked for a new trial on the grounds that "self-defense does not impute an intent to kill."
Alfred L. Sallade was found guilty of the charge that he voluntarily killed the Harvard sophomore on Sept. 1. Pending the result of application for a new trial, Sallade is on $20,000 ball.
Van Pelt was killed while on a hunting trip with friends last summer. Sallade testified he mistook him for a burglar.
