The Big Three Championship and possibly the National Intercollegiate title will be at stake this afternoon when the decidedly favored varsity squash team meets Yale in Hemenway at 3 o'clock.
Charlie Ufford and Dave Watts will be favored as usual in the top two positions. Neither Ufford nor Watts has ever last in an intercollegiate dual meet and this will be the last meet for both men. Their probable Blue opponents will be Blair Murphy and Bob Dewey, in either order, depending on the outcome of a challenge match yesterday.
Steve Sonnabend, Bill Wister, and Hadden Tomes will likewise be favored for the Crimson in view of their performances on the Navy-Princeton trip. The other four men, Mike Ward, Johnny Rauh, Larry Brownell, and Charlie Elliott, have about even chances.
By comparative scores, Harvard is favored. The Crimson lost to Navy 5 to 4 and Yale lost 6 to 3. The visitors will have the disadvantage, moreover, of playing away.
Since both teams have topped Princeton, they are in line for the Big Three title. Only if Navy loses to Army this afternoon, however, will they have a chance at the national title. Navy is thus far undefeated.
Yale would be favored going into the match only if it managed a successful juggling of its lineup. This is strictly illegal, but in view of the importance of the match, it is not an impossibility.
The Yardlings will be slight underdogs against the Yale freshmen in their match, also in Hemenway at 3.
