Ufford Picked to Win National Singles Title

Charlie Ufford is defending champion and favorite in the Intercollegiate Singles Squash Tournament which gets underway this morning at West Point.

Ufford, who lost to teammate Henry Foster in the final of the tournament two years ago and took top honors last year, will have no serious challenger, and Captain Dave Watts has an excellent chance of meeting him in the finals. Yale's Bob Dewey and Blair Murphy. Princeton's Roger Campbell, Bob Potter of Navy, and Dick Squires of Williams are entered, but Ufford has between all of these men. He has never lost to any of them in varsity competition, in fact.

Larry Brownell and Hadden Tomes are at West Point with Ufford any Watts, but are conceded little chance to get past the early rounds. Approximately 50 men from 13 colleges are entered.

The tournament is a round-robin affair and will continue until Sunday afternoon.

At a meeting of squash officials to be held Sunday night, the Crimson will undoubtedly get official confirmation on its national title.
