Crimson Plays Jeff Netmen Here at 2 p.m.

Amherst looks like the first team in ten matches with a chance of beating Jack Barnaby's depth-laden Crimson squad. The highly-rated Lord Jeffs take to the Soldiers Field courts this afternoon at 2 p.m. against an equally rated varsity.

The match is a toss-up. The Crimson pulled out a narrow 5 to 4 victory over essentially the same Lord Jeff team last year. But this spring Amherst has already turned in an impressive losing effort to powerful Yale. Both schools slaughtered their only common opponent, Brown, by identical 9-to-0 scores.

At 3 p.m. today, Corey Wynn's Yardling squad will take on the Amherst freshmen at Amherst.

Rauh Seeks Revenge

Top Crimson player Johnny Rauh will face Barry Schleicher, the same Jeff that trimmed him 6-2, 6-2, last year. Schleicher turned in Amherst's only singles victory at Yale, topping the Eli's Al Englander in three sets.

In doubles AmHerst should provide the closest competition. Both their top two doubles combinations of Dave Mesker and John Hicks and Pete Sherwood and Schleicher beat the Elis' top teams.

Captain Charley Ufford at two will meet the Jeff's Vince Townsend. At three Gene Mann again plays hard hitting Amherst co-captain Mesker. Last year Mesker beat Mann.

Art French meets Sherwood in the four spot. At five Don Bossart takes on John Wheeler, and at six Alex Haegler meets the Jeff's Mark Hanschka.

Barnaby, who feels his team is a little overconfident because of its victory over Amherst last year, may be able to turn an expected close match into a rout. All Amherst has to do is agree to play more than the minimum six singles, three doubles.

For the freshmen, Captain Ham Graven is in his usual top singles spot. Brooks Harris plays two, Conrad Fischer three, and Martin Heckscher four. Karl Purnell and Bill Green round out the top six.
