Runners Favored Over Dartmouth Here Today

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Bill McCurdy's varsity track team, never beaten outdoors in his two years of coaching is a solid favorite to make Dartmouth its third victim of the spring season at 1:30 p.m. today in the Stadium. The Yardlings take on the Green freshman at the same time.

Overconfidence hurt the runners against the Green in the winter season. A resurgent Dartmouth squad upset the undefeated Crimson in the final event at Hanover. And it could do it again. A loss to Dartmouth outdoors would just about kill all chances of topping Yale. Last week, the Elis smashed the Green 103 to 37.

But McCurdy can count on his sophomore star Rob Rittenburg to score heavily today. Rittenburg took four first places--one more than the entire Holy Cross team--as the varsity downed the Crusaders last Saturday. Rittenburg, a hurdler, also captured the high jump and the broad jump.

Twitchell Heavy Scorer

Pete Dow and Bob Twitchell give the Crimson plenty of scoring in the dashes and added power in the hurdles. They have split so far this year, with the taller Twitchell favored in the 220 and a possible winner in the hurdles, if McCurdy uses him there. Al Howe will be looking for revenge against the Green's John Huck in the 440.

Dartmouth's main strength lies in the distance runs, where Walt Clarkson and Mike Morrissey are heavily favored. But the Crimson's Hubie Maguire and Hal Gerry, if not able to spring any upsets, should score.
