Clasby Early Eagles' Draft Choice; Prefers Canadian Football to NFL

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

The Philadelphia Eagles of the National Football League yesterday selected Dick Clasby, captain of last year's football team, as one of its early draft choices. The Eagles, who finished second to the Cleveland Browns in the Eastern Division of the league last season, passed up many publicized All-American players to concentrate on passers and rugged runners such as Clasby and Dartmouth's Dave McLaughlin. Clasby was not available last night for comment.

Clasby, a triple threat tailback, said that he had received an offer to play with a Canadian Football League team, but he refused to disclose which one had made the offer. He also reported receiving questionnaires to fill out for every team in the NFL. However, he admitted that an American team would "be second to get my services."

Clasby, who was named to the third All-American and first string All-East teams, repeated as first string halfback on the A.P. All-Ivy League team. He led the league in punting and placed fourth in the country, with an average of 41 yards per unt. In total offense, he ran for 370 yards and passed for another 378, to rank third in the league.
