Pusey Assails Ban On Red China Topic

President Pusey attacked as "regrettable" an Annapolis and West Point restriction on the use of the national debate topic stating that the United States should recognize Red China.

At the press conference on Tuesday, Pusey answered the ban with a defense of academic freedom at Harvard. He said that "speaking only for Harvard, I would say that the students are not restricted."

Pusey added that students should be permitted "to discuss all sides of all questions. One never assumes in a debate that because a student speaks on an issue, that is what he believes."
