The varsity sailing team finally learned how to beat M.I.T. and at the same time outraced 12 other teams during the weekend for the unofficial New England dinghy championship.

In three meets on Saturday and Sunday, the Crimson sailors defeated Brown in a dual race at Providence, placed third to Coast Guard and Brown in a quadrangular event at New London, and won the Boston Dinghy Club Cup regatta on the Charles.

M.I.T., which had defeated the varsity twice before this season and was favored in the dinghy races, finished third with 281 points. Tufts, the defending champion, was seventh with 202. The Crimson, skippered by Jim Nathanson, was first with 311.
