Today's Race to End Outdoor Crew Work

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

The 150-pound varsity crew will wind up outdoor fall practice today at 4 p.m. in a five-boat race on the Charles River from the MTA bridge to the MIT dock.

The "Hackers Challenge Cup" race, which will include four Crimson light weight boats, annually marks the withdrawal of the crew into the inside tanks. The fifth crew comes from Andover Academy--the first schoolboy eight ever to race for the Hackers Cup.

Instead of the usual three-quarter mile route at a hard 32 stroke pace, this year's crew will row one and three-quarter miles at a more leisurely 25 stroke rate.
