Nuclear Program Set for Next Fall

A program to train nuclear engineers for atomic-energy projects like the government's Oak Ridge, Tenn., installation will be offered next year by the Division of Applied Science. Under the program, the Division plans a new half-course that will cover the basic, general problems of nuclear engineering.

Although the program in Nuclear Engineering will unity the courses currently offered by the Division and by the Department of Physics in nuclear physics and quantum theory, the nuclear studies will not be set up as a separate field in Applied Science. Instead, a student will combine his studies of nuclear studies within another engineering area.

"Nuclear Engineering is a new field and the Division of Applied Science tries to keep abreast of the times," Dean John H. Van Vieck of the Division said yesterday. "There is undoubtedly going to be a tremendous amount of nuclear power generated within the next two decades and we are not sure just how much, but we want to provide training for the many we want to provide training for the many men who will be needed," he continued.
