Compulsory automobile insurance rates in Massachusetts will go up 50 cents in 1957, it was announced last night in a tentative schedule by Joseph A. Humphreys, state insurance commissioner.

The Cambridge basic rates for Class 1 policies will be $54. Boston's rate of $73.50 remains the highest in the state.
