The largest debate tournament of the year in New England will open in the Union this afternoon under the sponsorship of the Debate Council.
In the second annual Harvard Invitational Tournament, teams from 30 colleges and universities, including a freshmen team from Harvard, will debate the proposition, "Resolved: That the non-agricultural industries of the United States should guarantee their employees an annual wage."
The Debate Council--as host--will not itself enter a team, but George M. Fredrickson '56 and Robert H. King '57 will compete in the impromptu speaking division.
The winning team will be awarded the John Quincy Adams trophy after the final debate and banquet in the Union, to be broadcast on WHRB. The trophy was won last year by St. Peter's College.
