Saudek Misquoted

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Robert Saudek '32, Producer of "Omnibus," was misquoted in the Summer News of July 19 in the article reporting his speech at the Summer School conference on Educational Television.

Saudek was reported as saying the following:

"Television has risen out of radio's golden age of mediocrity and has failed to develop its unique potential as a means of communication."

What he actually said, as shown by the prepared text of his speech, is as follows:

"Judged by the standards of great universities, television education in general is at present only rising out of radio's golden age of mediocrity. Yet education is judged, not by averages, but by the degree of excellence which it is capable of attaining, and in this respect the situation is a good deal more hopeful."
