Squash Team to Open Intercollegiate Season With Wesleyan Today

The varsity squash team opens its intercollegiate season today at Wesleyan in a match that promises to be little more than a tuneup for the rugged Army squad on Saturday.

Coach Jack Barnaby cited Wesleyan's lack of depth as the factor behind Harvard's 9 to 0 shutout last year, but added that even another whitewash job will not guarantee success against the Black Knights.

The starting lineup will be the same as the one scheduled to open against Army. Larry Sears and Charlie Hamm, both handicapped by recent colds, will play the number one and two positions.

Gerry Emmet, Henry Cortesi and Pete Lund will round out the first five spots, while John Davis, Charlie Poletti, Ed Wadsworth and Fred Vinton open in the remaining places. Cortesi, Poletti and Vinton are veterans of last year's freshman team.

The freshman squash team lost to an older and more experienced Lincoln's Inn Society team 4 to 1 yesterday at Hemenway Gymnasium. First man, Tony Lake, won in five games, 15-12, 6-15, 11-15, 15-8, 15-7, for Harvard's only victory.

In an unfinished match, the varsity "B" squad leads the M.I.T. "B" team, 2 to 0 on straight game wins by Ed Wadsworth and John Davis.
