Princeton has received $500,000 in grants toward $1,250,000 needed for the construction of a new "dormitory complex," Robert F. Goheen, President of Princeton, announced yesterday. Goheen said that plans for combined dormitory, dining, and social buildings "now can become a reality." These plans include three dormitory buildings capable or housing 600 students, as well as dining facilities for 250.
In addition to alleviating the Princeton housing shortage, the new buildings will provide alternative facilities for students who do not desire to join eating clubs. In the future, students who do not join the clubs will be able to live and eat together.
The new dormitory group will be similar to the Harvard Houses only in physical structure. They will not serve as permanent academic or social units.
