The varsity squash team opened its intercollegiate season yesterday with a 9-0 shutout victory over Wesleyan at Middletown.
Although every player won his match, the Crimson had a greater amount of trouble than was expected from the perennially weak Wesleyan team.
Larry Sears, playing in first position, had to come from behind to win, 3 to 2. Sears has been troubled for the past two weeks by a bad ankle and a cold.
Charlie Hamm, Gerry Emmet, Henry Cortesi, Pete Lund, John Davis, Charlie Poletti, and Ed Wadsworth all won by 3-0 scores. Fred Vinton was the only varsity player besides Sears to lose a game, though he won his match 3 to 1.
The real trouble now facing the squash team is that its easy victory may cause overconfidence for the match against Army this weekend. Although the same men are expected to start against the Cadets, the lineup may be different.
