Swimming Team Tops Engineers, 74-12

The varsity swimming team broke three M.I.T. pool records as the Crimson swept every first place to trounce Tech 74 to 12 last night.

John Hammond thrashed through the 100-yard butterfly in his fastest time of the season, 56.4, crushing the old mark by nine seconds. The 400-yard medley relay team of Bill Murray, Jim Stanley, Hammond, and Ron Mischner swam the distance in 4:01.8 to break the pool record by seven seconds. Doug McCartney swam the 200-yard breastroke in 2:37.9.

Dick Seaton and Koni Ulbrich finished one-two in the 220-yard freestyle, and surprise sprinter Pete Zemo won the 50-free in a commendable time of 24.4.

Time 24.4. 100-yard butterfly--Won by Hammond (H); second, Perilman (H); third, Getchell (M.I.T.). Time--56.4. (breaks pool record). Dive--Won by Gorman (H); second, Stone (H); third, Cahlender (M.I.T.). 78.38 points. 100-yard freestyle--Won by Boeckler (H); second, Cochran (H); third, Windle (M.I.T.). Time--54.2. 200-yard backstroke Won by Murray (H); second Pildner (H); third, Divine (M.I.T.). Time--2:19.6. 440-yard freestyle--Won by Seaton (H); second, Kohlman (M.I.T.); third, Pecsok (H). Time--5:11.2. 200-yard breast-roke--Won by McCartney (H); second, West (M.I.T.); third, Falk (H). Time--2:37.9. (breaks pool record). 400-yard freestyle relay--Won by Harvard: Rose, Nash, Winthrop, and Cochran; second, M.I.T.: Veeck, Kossler, Kane, and Windle; Time--3:45.4.
