'61 Defeats Brown In Fifth Win, 71-60; Bowditch Scores 27

Accurate outside shooting by Bob Bowditch and Bill Richling led the Yardling basketball team to its fifth straight win of the season, 71 to 60, over the Brown freshmen at the I.A.B. last night. Bowditch led all scorers with 27 points.

With Bowditch showing the way, the Yardlings opened a 35 to 27 half-time lead over their Bruin counterparts, but Brown's second half full-court press obviously nettled the Yardlings. At the eight minute mark, their margin had dwindled to only two points.

However, Ray Cogswell, Bowditch, and Richling all began to find the range again, and the Yardlings gradually pulled away.

Outside of this long shooting, the freshmen offered little on offense, as Brown controlled the boards. The Yardlings contented themselves with picking their spots for jump shots or one-handers.

With a lead of 13 points and only three minutes to go, Coach Bruce Munro re-inserted his first team for a ball-control drill, obviously geared for the more difficult games to come.
