JV Team Beats Tufts Squad, 7-6

The junior varsity football team registered its first victory since 1955 yesterday by defeating an experienced Tufts eleven, 7 to 6.

Chub Newell's perfect placement conversion in the third quarter provided the margin of victory after halfback Bob Hunter had raced 30 yards through the center of the Tufts defense.

Tufts led off the scoring in the second quarter by springing a halfback loose through the Crimson line for a score. An attempted rush for the two point conversion was smothered by the alert J.V. line.

Nelson Outstanding

Fullback James Nelson spearheaded the offense for the home forces, while tackle Jack Foker and center Roger Hall-owell were towers of defensive strength. The defense, once it began to rush the passer effectively, completely halted the Jumbos' advances.

The junior varsity next engages Dart-mouth on Friday, Oct. 24. Yesterday's triumph, the first since a victory over Dean Academy in 1955 and the first over a college squad since the 1954 Yale game, augurs well for the future.
