Registration for Russian Courses Sets New Record With Over 200

Sixty Take Intensive Course

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Enrollment in Russian courses rose sharply this year with more than 200 students taking courses offered by the Department of Slavic Languages and Literatures.

Slavic A, the new non-intensive introduction to Russian, is now the largest in size of the Slavic language courses with an enrollment of 144 students, 119 more than expected. Sixty students are taking Slavic Aab, the intensive course, although the Department anticipated only 40.

In order to provide instruction for the unusually large number of students of Russian, the Department will draw extensively upon graduate students.

The sharp rise in enrollment was not wholly unexpected, since six more sections of students applied to take Russian courses in the Summer School than had been expected.
