Applications for admission to the Center for Middle Eastern Studies in 1958 were more than double the figure for any previous year, Derwood W. Lockard, associate director of the Center, said yesterday.
Enrollment in the Center's Master of Arts program nearly tripled, as 20 students were admitted this year, as compared with eight in 1957.
"The increase in applications came as a surprise," commented Lockard. "If the demand continues," he declared, "we shall have to take on more instructors and expand facilities."
