Providence College defeated the Crimson basketball squad, 117 to 99, in a 70-minute scrimmage Saturday at Boston Garden. The Friars pulled away to an early 13-point lead, but from then on the teams played on even terms.
George Harrington led varsity scorers with 22 points, all from the floor, while captain Bob Repetto, Griff McClellan, and Bob Bowditch had 12 points each. The fifth starter, Mike Donohue, played a fine game in the backcourt, netting eight points.
Perhaps the most encouraging factor in the game was the play of McClellan. The 6 ft., 8 in. center showed definite improvement over last year, as he rebounded very well against Providence's big men.
The entire squad saw a good deal of action, giving coach Floyd Wilson a chance to observe the particular weaknesses he must iron out before this Saturday's official opener at Amherst.
