Eliot Supt. Wins TV Prize

"People are funny," says Art Linkletter, and George E. Leighton, superintendent of Eliot House, will gladly agree with him. Leighton and his wife recently won a round trip flight to Sweden on Linkletter's television show.

"They asked us where we would like to go if we could go anywhere in the world," explains Leighton. "We chose Sweden because Mrs. Leighton's family comes from there, and it was the first place that occurred to us."

The Leightons were chosen for the trip because they were talking with Link-letter when a pre-set alarm rang. "I was speechless," says Leighton. "I've never won anything in my life. I could buy nine out of ten raffle tickets and still lose."

This time he did not lose, however, and members of Eliot House will be able to watch him win on film tomorrow night at 7:30 p.m. over Channel 4. Leighton says he believes that Eliot is definitely the finest of the Houses.

"I enjoy helping college students, explained Leighton, who has been with the University for more than 20 years. "You shouldn't work here if you don't." Cooperation with the Superintendent's Department has increased since he first came, and more help is given to get the job done, Leighton claimed. The efficiency of the caretaking department "has improved 100 per cent" during the last 20 years, he asserted.

Plans are not definite yet, but the trip will be made some time next year, according to Leighton. At the time of the program the Leightons were visiting their son in California, and on their return from Sweden they will pass through California again for another visit.
